Croatia – North itinerary

The Isle of Mljet, its bays and National Park

Oltremare Tour Mediterraneo Croazia Nord
Saturday – Slano harbour
Slano is a village rich in history situated in a 2-kilometer bay not far from Dubrovnik. The area offers a wealth of beautiful bays and beaches, both sandy and rocky.

You will board the catamaran at the ACI Marina in Slano where the skipper will welcome you, show you the boat and explain the rules for your safety. You will decide how to stock the galley and complete all the check-in formalities. After a special ‘welcome aperitif’ organized by the crew, and a dinner on board, you will stay overnight in your cabins, ready for your first day’s sailing tomorrow.

Sunday – Island of Mljet
The first day you will set sail in the morning, after breakfast served onboard the catamaran, to reach the island of Mljet, ‘pearl of the Adriatic’ and considered by many as one of the world’s 10 most beautiful islands with its crystal-clear waters and lush Mediterranean vegetation. The island is also known for its beautiful forests of Aleppo pine.

We will sail to the bay of Saplunara, on the south coast of the island, and about a kilometer long. Here, you can relax and enjoy the beautiful sandy bay (Blue Flag award), where the waters in the shallows can be as warm as 28 C in the summer.

Monday - Sobra Bay
We sail north east around the coast of Mljet, to another of its stupendous bays: Sobra, a calm and cosy inlet with characteristic village and harbour.
Tuesday - Mljet National Park
The park is in the northern part of the island of Mljet and extends for a large part of its surface area. The park also has a “lakes area” with two saltwater lakes: the smaller, Malo Jezero (30 m deep) and the larger, Veliko Jezero (46 m deep), in the center of which emerges the islet of Santa Maria and symbol of the Park.

Both lakes can be reached on foot, and you can also get around the island’s inland waters by kayak or canoe.
In this area, the sea teems with life, with oysters, various species of scallops, and a completely harmless jellyfish that lives only in the sea-lakes, and which can reach 55 cm in diameter.
In the large lake, diving enthusiasts can find a rich colony of coral that extends over 650 square meters at a depth of 4 to 18 m.

Wednesday - The island of Korcula
In the morning, we set sail northwards again, to the island of Korcula, the sixth largest island in the Adriatic Sea, with 182 km of coast. It has may coves that offer shelter from the wind, especially in the northern part of the island. With its wealth of history and culture, the old town of Korcula is well worth a visit as it stands on a small horseshoe peninsula partly surrounded by ancient walls and eight towers dating back to the Venetian domination of the fifteenth century.

The whole island offers beautiful beaches, expanses of vineyards and olive groves, and still preserves magnificent ancient summer residences.

Thursday - Zuljana Bay
Zuljana is a small village overlooking the bay of the same name and the island of Mijet. The village is mainly inhabited by fishermen and wine growers and is found in one of the best wine growing areas of Croatia. It has small grocery stores and bars, and some local folk often sell the home-grown produce of their gardens or fish they have caught the same morning.

With its shallow seabed and clean pebble beaches, the area is suitable for children. The water is clear, just perfect for snorkeling or for diving further offshore.

Friday - Okuklje harbour
Surrounded by lush wooded and green heights, the village of Okuklje is the most protected of the area, and is a safe haven in the event of bad weather or strong wind. The bay is well-closed and the entrance passage so narrow as to make the village almost invisible at first.
Saturday - Slano harbour
On this day, you will return to Slano harbour to deal with the check-out formalities and prepare to leave the sea and return to the mainland.
